Tech Task: Einstein Generator

 Einstein Generator

Reading 09

For this week, we are assigned to review our triads chapters and then start working on our own chapters after the feedback we get from our peers. I have wrote my chapter and added all the bibliographies that I used for the chapter. I made sure they are reliable and trustworthy because I got them google scholar. I wrote my chapter following the steps I have learnt through out the weeks from the beginning of the semester till now. I struggled a little bit but then it got easier and all those weeks of researching and gathering sources made it easier to write my chapter. The chapter is about the core elements of game design, which is basically the main elements that should be included when designing a game that will make it interactive, challenging, fun, and successful. I have read the other chapters from my triad and I found them interesting and really good pieces. They were about the aesthetics and how games are mainly designed for boys, that more females should play them and not feel that they aren't any better than boys playing them, and women should be represented more in the game industry including the characters as well. I provided comments and gave feedbacks for them that I hope might help in making their chapter better.

Reading 08

In this week's reading task, there were three videos provided for us to watch talking about how to write an introduction and a conclusion. They were very useful and beneficial. The videos were talking about how much it is important to have a good introduction and a conclusion that include a thesis statement, a sentence that attract the readers to read and be interested in your topic while researching for your topics and chapters. It is also important to include supporting sentences from academic resources that are reliable like google scholar. In your intro, you need to write about your topic generally but then in your conclusion, summarize your topic and what you talked about in your body paragraphs but in other words and straight to the point without adding examples or details because all that goes into the body paragraphs; therefore, the most important thing for your research is the introduction and the conclusion. This is because it is when the readers determine whether or not they are going to either skim through  the text or read the piece carefully. A writers aim is to keep the information digestible so the reader chooses the latter; however, if the piece was complicated and they didn't achieve that aim, the readers will get bored.

Project Progress

This week, I am going to explain in details my project and what is it exactly about. I liked how the 2d ruby game was done and I think it helped a lot with coming up with the idea of my 2d game; however, it is somehow complicated and I don not think I will be having all these elements and objects in my game that I will be designing. My game is simple and clear. It is called "The Exploding Forest" and it is similar to "Raft Wars".

There will be a character wearing a hood in a forest and enemies will start appearing one by one. The hooded girl has to shoot at them explosives till they die to win. The girl can move left and right using the control keys and can jump using the space bar because there will be an enemy behind a rock so the girl needs to jump to be able to shoot him. The enemy has a health bar above him and while shooting at them you can see how much health the enemy has left till you can kill them and die. I hope the game is challenging and fun as I am imagining it to be. There are really simple tutorials I found that will help in designing the game in unity.

Attacking and shooting games are challenging and fun to play. These kind of games create interactions with the players. The game must be interactive and enjoyable. When I started thinking about my idea for the 2d game, I thought about what are the elements that will make the game challenging, fun, and interactive through the design, characters, and theme. The game is simple and straightforward but hopefully it is enjoyable and it turns out the way I imagined it.

This is my game design document if you want to check it out and see what my game is really about.

Tutorial 07

In this week's tutorials, we are nearly done with the Ruby 2D game. We just need to add audio to the game to make it more interactive and fun to play. The music in a game makes it enjoyable and the players love whenever there is good music in a game. The audio tutorial was straightforward and easy to follow as there was not much to do. It is just about adding the audio to the game. I learnt that we had to attach the music we downloaded as an mp3 to the camera in the game because we want it to play throughout the game and never stop. Then after adding the audio into the hierarchy and adjusting its settings, including the loop, the volume, and the pitch, I had to add coding into the ruby controller, and the health scripts to get it to play. The last thing I had to do is to set up the game and build it up on unity so as to play it and let others play it. I am so happy that the tutorials are done now and that I can focus on the project 2D game of my own now because I struggled a lot in this 2D Ruby game but I learnt a lot from it that I will implement some of the things I have learnt into my own 2d unity game.

Reading 07

In this week's reading task, we are assigned to write at least six paragraphs on our chosen topic. Each paragraph has to include a minimum of 5 sentences, including an intro sentence, a conclusion sentence, and at least one supporting sentence. Each one in the class is assigned to read two other pieces and has to comment on them. We have to read them carefully and see if the included everything that is mentioned above and if not, we have to write what's missing and what is not so as to let help them make changes and make it look better. I was assigned to read Mimi's and Mary's chapters. I have read them carefully and I thought they were clear, included all the elements except for the sources they had. They were very little and I think there should be more in order to support their chapters and what they included in them. I found it easy to write my chapter after the first couple of weeks researching and following the steps that were included in the reading tasks to help with writing our chapter. At the beginning, I struggled a little bit but then it got easier and all those weeks of researching and gathering sources made it easier to write my chapter.

Project Process

The 2D game I planned on doing after researching different tutorials and ideas that could help in designing the game is called "Exploding forest". It is about a character that is surrounded by enemies that look like wood. The character, which will be wearing a red hood, has to throw explosives at the enemies in order to win the game. The enemies will have a health bar on top of their heads as the red hood character throws explosives at them to know when they're dying. The character can move left and right and it can also jump. The enemies, however, can not move. They will just appear in different places in the game scene and the character has to move to reach them and kill them. The characters will be in a place that looks like a park or forest. All the assets I will be using for the game is from the unity asset store and they are all for free. I will be adding four different scripts for the game. One for the player, one for the enemies, one for the health bar that is on top of the enemy, and the last one for the explosives to make the character throw them at the enemies. I chose to do this game because I want it simple and includes features that I have learnt from the tutorials we have been doing through the weeks till now. There will also be a huge rock in the scene so that whenever the red hood character throws explosives at it. it will not pass through it. It will be there to make the game more challenging and fun. I think I can design the game in a small amount of time but hopefully it is good enough and that everything I add in it, like the assets and scripts, will not break it or crash it because last semester while creating the game, I added an asset and everything crashed so I had to restart it from the beginning. I will also save every time I add something to the project so that if something happened I have it saved on my desktop.

Tutorial 06

This week's tutorials for the Ruby 2D game were adding visuals for the game to make it look more professional an fancier so that the players can interact with the game and find it more fun to play. The visual we had to apply is Ruby's health bar so that while playing we can see when are we losing. It was easy and simple to add the health bar but we had to adjust the size of it then for the health bar to be less whenever Ruby hits something and loses life, we had to do a script for it. The second tutorial was even easier than the first one as the task was to add a new character, which was the frog. We had to create a sprite first then add it to the game scene. This was way easier than the first I even didn't need to follow every instruction for this tutorial because we already knew what we were supposed to do as we did that in the beginning of creating the Ruby 2D game. I still have some issues with my game from the previous tutorials but hopefully by the end of the game, I figure them out and the game would be played perfectly and I will enjoy it.

Project Progress

This week, which is week 6 of the second semester, we are starting the first part of the project. We are researching and planning what our game is going to be and how we are going to create it using unity. I started this week by researching tutorials that would help in creating the game and that I think are not too complicated because I prefer it to be simple and easy to create because last semester I started creating a game and added lots of scripts and tried to make it complicated and challenging but that didn't work and I had to do it again because while adding everything something happened and the game crashed so I had to create another game but much more simpler. For this semester, I will create a game that is similar to a shooting game. The game will have a character and enemies. The main character has to kill the enemies that keeps appearing using bombs. The enemies will have a bar of life above them so that we know when they are dead. When all the enemies are dead, that is when we win the game. All the assets that I will be using for the game are in unity store and for free. The game is really simple and easy to play but fun as well. I will be using the help of the unity tutorials we are doing right now for the Ruby 2D game but hopefully my game doesn't crash like last semester and that everything goes well. This game should be easier than the last semester game we had to create since this is a 2D game and the 3D game is much harder and includes more scripts and properties not like the 2D, which is much simpler and easy to create.

Reading 06

In this week's reading task, we are supposed to start with our book by writing paragraphs from the themes we chose last week from our bibliographies. There was a video that showed how we should write the paragraphs. Basically, we need to start writing four to six paragraphs and each paragraph must include a these statement, content sentences about my topic, and a conclusion sentence. Each paragraph should include at least five sentences about my topic. I started gathering information from my bibliographies and the themes that I wrote last week. I wrote four paragraphs using sentences from my bibliographies and themes while also adding information on my own words. I somehow paraphrased my themes and bibliographies in a formal and presentable way. I was confused last week on how to write the themes but then when I started writing the first theme everything came along and it was not confusing anymore. I hope the next couple of weeks we would not have too much work for the reading tasks because we need to start with our 2D game and get it done before week 9. I also hope that what I have for the reading is good and enough so far and that my matrix and research method are correct because I can not wait to be a part of the book that is going to be published.
